Ad-hoc sub-process with a start or end event
The check bpmnlint/ad-hoc-sub-process, in the group Modelling rules.
Why it matters
An ad-hoc sub-process has no defined start or end: its activities run when someone chooses, so an event marking either is meaningless.
How to fix it
Delete the start and end events inside the ad-hoc sub-process.
Where you see it
The editor puts a marker on the element while you draw, and the Problems tab of the sidebar lists it under Rules, with the rule name bpmnlint/ad-hoc-sub-process. In a terminal, penstock check --only rules reports it.
To change how strict this rule is, set ad-hoc-sub-process to error, warn or off in your .bpmnlintrc. See Validation.
